I've just rediscovered it and actually quite like the look of it so plan to wear it.I'd like to know if its genuine because if it is, i would pay for it to be restored properly. Else i will just wear it as is.Images:Observations that aren't clear from just pictures:-The second hand moves 3 times for every second.-The watch winds as you shake/move it.-The spindle pulls out only one click to change the time. Can anyone tell me:Is it genuine? What date might it be?Thanks!. My friend has given me what i believe is the serial: 13288264 which i understand puts this build at 1971 (thanks to ). There is also a number on the inside of the watches back 43/44520/5 but not sure what this is.He has also sent a photo of the back but whatsapp messenger has severely reduced the quality. Apologies.I had time to wind and wear the watch over the weekend but found that it lost a considerably amount of time over the course of the day.
This is a real pity as it makes it almost useless. Is there anything that can be done to improve this other than a full service? Thanks again,. Yep - that serial number puts it at 1971.The number on the inside is a case number. If it lost a lot of time while wearing it, it probably does need a full servicing. The Tissot cal. 784-2 (your movement) is generally a little workhorse once operating properly. I know it well. How much did you wind it before putting it on? How much time did it lose? It's an automatic movement, but to get it started from a full stop you want to wind it 30 - 40 times or so.
You can't over-wind and automatic movement. Try that and wear it another day.The date feature on the 784's isn't a quick-set, but you can advance the date by setting past midnight, then backwards to 8:45, then forwards again to midnight to advance again until it's correct. My watches with a date feature are never correct. I'm too lazy to do that, plus it's rare that I care what day it is.If it doesn't work correctly after that, your options are to either have it serviced (which could be $250 or so - maybe less) or sell it as-is for parts. The mostly depends on the sentimental value of the watch, and how much you like it.Servicing costs about as much as the watch is worth - but afterwards you'll have a lovely vintage Tissot at a fair price that will run correctly for a long time.
